beginner ballet

Absolute beginner ballet

These classes are designed for adults who have no ballet experience or those who are returning from many years off. Classes focus on the basic positions and fundamental building-block movements, breaking down each step, and teaching the French vocabulary for the positions and steps.  Teachers emphasize correct body placement and proper execution of ballet steps. Students are required to register for the full session as we build on what we have learned from week to week.

Teacher Avery Saulnier de Reyes has 18 years of experience as a teacher of all ages and particularly values the motivations and life experiences of adult learners. Questions are always welcome in this environment!

What to wear? Adult students may wear anything that makes you feel confident and can be moved in easily. Traditional ballet attire, such as tights, leotard and skirt are welcome, but leggings and a t-shirt are perfectly fine. Wear what makes you happy. Ballet slippers are recommended.

These classes are designed for adults who have completed an Introductory or Absolute Beginners session at Northeast Arts or elsewhere. Teachers assume students are familiar with the full barre sequence at the basic level. Classes focus on the adding port de bras to barre work, introducing the sequence of exercises that make up center work, and adding a range of two-foot to two-foot jumps.  Teachers emphasize correct body placement and proper execution of ballet steps. Students are required to register for the full session as we build on what we have learned from week to week.

Teacher Ken Pierce has taught children and adults of all ages in ballet and historical dance styles, with a worldwide following of dedicated students. Questions are always welcome in this environment!
