Specifically designed for the adult dancer, Northeast Arts Adult Beginner Programs offer the most comprehensive dance training in Boston. Our dedicated team of teachers will share the magic of dance and its countless benefits, including increased strength, balance and flexibility, stress relief, and artistic immersion.

Our faculty’s interest is working with adult learners. Their teaching experience and professional knowledge combine to offer you a safe, friendly and informative class where the motivations and life experiences of adult learners are valued. Questions are always welcome in this environment as we pride ourselves on maintaining a welcoming and judgement free environment in which all participants can thrive.

Who is this for?

These classes are designed for adults who have no ballet experience or those who are returning from many years off. Teachers emphasize correct body placement and proper execution of ballet steps throughout the series of classes.

Teachers & classes

  • These classes are designed for adults who have no ballet experience. Classes focus on the basic positions and fundamental building-block movements, breaking down each step, and teaching the French vocabulary for the positions and steps.  Teachers emphasize correct body placement and proper execution of ballet steps. Students are required to register for the full session as we build on what we have learned from week to week. One hour.

  • Designed for adults who have completed an Absolute Beginners program, are returning to ballet after time away or want to work on refining correct execution and placement of the basic steps and exercises. Teachers do not assume previous knowledge of center work and place emphasis on adding new vocabulary and expanding familiarity with body positions in centerwork. Teachers are open to modification of exercises to suit participants’ needs and welcome questions. Students are required to register for the full session as we build on what we have learned from week to week. One hour.

  • Designed for adults who have completed Basic Beginner Ballet 1, are returning to ballet after time away or want to work on refining correct execution and placement of the basic steps and exercises. Teachers do not assume previous knowledge of center work and place emphasis on adding new vocabulary including basic pirouettes, small jumps to one foot and expanding familiarity with head and arm positions in center work. Teachers are open to modification of exercises to suit participants’ needs and welcome questions. Students are required to register for the full session as we build on what we have learned from week to week. One hour.

  • Define and polish your knowledge with clear instruction on port de bras, different preparations for turns you have learned previously, longer, more complex combinations, and medium jumps with their transition steps. A great class for those who are branching out into open classes and want a place to explore new steps in more detail. Students are required to register for the full session as we build on what we have learned from week to week. One hour.

What to wear?

Adult students may wear anything that makes you feel confident and can be moved in easily. Traditional ballet attire, such as tights, leotard and skirt are welcome, but leggings and a t-shirt are perfectly fine. Wear what makes you happy. Ballet slippers are recommended.

Minimum group of 5 dancers. No refunds or cancellations per studio policy. In the unlikely event the program is cancelled by Northeast Arts, tuition paid will be refunded.
